Our Mission
The Power of One is a volunteer organization of mentors who serve as reliable and trusting friends to youth in need of a positive role model.

Requirements to be a Mentor
Who are the Power of One Mentors? Men and women, who can be positive caring role models for a youth of Pitt County.

In Order to become a Power of One Mentor, you must met the following requirements:

18 Years or Older.

Must have reliable transportation and insurance, plus a valid driver's license.


Must be willing to go through a screening process; providing references and permission for background/criminal records check.


Must attend a 3-6 hour pre-service orientation and training.


Must be able to commit to spending 2 hours a week/8 hours a month for one year with the youth assigned.


Must have an interest in investing time and encouragement into the life of a youth


Questions to ask Yourself
Am I reliable, and can I commit myself to a year of being a mentor?

Do I want to be an adult mentor and friend to a youth who may not have a friend or a mentor?


Do I want to make a difference in our community and society?


Would I like to include a young person in activities that I already enjoy doing?


Am I open to new experiences?


Am I ready to receive maximum return for investing my time in a young person's life?
