REALITY STORE Communities In Schools offer Students a Taste of Reality

Middle School students experience an hour of reality, through the “Reality Store” program. Communities In Schools of Pitt County has received financial support from the Business Professional Women to offer this invaluable opportunity to students in Pitt County. Exposing these students to the realities of jobs, single and two parent households, bills, and children is the focus of this project. Each student is given a profile, including his or her job title, income, marital status, and number of dependent children. They move through various stations, in their school gym/library, receiving their paychecks and then spending them on the essentials, such as rent/mortgage, utilities, food, and transportation. They may or may not have the means to pay for a cellular phone, go out to eat, or go to the movies. It is our hope that these students will better understand what the future may hold and how their decisions can and will affect their lives.

You have the opportunity to be involved in this very worthwhile project! We are in need of individuals or groups to staff these “reality booths," at middle schools across Pitt County.
